Even though you might think that it is Monica Theodorescu’s characteristic last name that is remembered by dressage fans, she is undoubtedly remembered for her successful rides with her lovely black horse Ganimedes. The expressive pair won the World Cup Final in s’Hertogenbosch in 1993 and again in 1994 in Stockholm, and in 1995, the pair occupied the second place at the World Cup Final in Los Angeles, only surpassed by Anky van Grunsven. Anky van Grunsven also directed Monica to the second place at the World Cup Final the following year.
Back in 1988, she achieved a 7th place at the World Cup Final in s’´Hertogenbosch and won Olympic gold for teams in Seoul. Two years later, she won individual bronze and team gold at the World Championships
in Stockholm. It has come to a total of 3 Olympic team gold medals for Monica Theodorescu on the horses Ganimedes and Grunox respectively. Earlier this year, she wedged in between the two great dressage queens Isabell Werth and Anky van Grunsven in the Grand Prix at the large event in Aachen prior to the Olympic Games in Hong Kong. |
